Telemedicine

Using advanced telemedicine technology to improve health care
The Arizona Telemedicine Program provides telemedicine services, distance learning, informatics training, and telemedicine technology assessment capabilities to communities throughout Arizona by creating new paradigms for health-care delivery over the information superhighway. Currently the Arizona Telemedicine Program is providing medical services via both real-time and store-and-forward technologies in 20 communities. This year, 500 hours of continuing medical education and continuing education will be delivered to 34 communities using bi-direction video conferencing.

Arizona Health Sciences Library

From the past to the future
Today’s library is a mix of the old and the new. From our historical collection to the coffee bar to the latest online clinical information tools, the library focuses on supporting education, clinical care and research by providing an information-rich environment. Come see our beautiful building, hear about the latest construction project and see a 40th Anniversary Exhibit of news stories about the College from the 60s and 70s along with a display of educational materials and scientific instruments used in the first years of the College.

MDL-Microscopy and Team Learning

A peek at the newest classrooms
They’re not the same MDLs. High-tech and interactive, the third-floor multidiscipline labs, totally renovated as “Virtual Labs,” not only enhance teaching and learning opportunities, they also mirror contemporary approaches used in “real-world” clinical settings. Where medical students at four-person stations once took turns studying slides through a microscope, today’s students view images that include slide scans, videos and even 3D CT scans on large, wall-mounted plasma screens. An instructor can control the 10 monitors that ring the room from a central console, comparing and contrasting different images, or student groups can work independently, each controlling their own monitor. The applications of the technology are virtually unlimited and reflect the creativity and flexibility characteristic of the new College curriculum.

Preparation for Clinical Medicine (PCM) Clinic

Clinical and Professional Skills Training
Through the Doctor & Patient course the first and second-year medical students are instructed how to interview and communicate with patients, perform a physical exam, and think clinically by working with Standardized Patients. These activities take place in the Clinical & Professional Skills Teaching Clinic.
